Moncton Business and Property Owners Launch “Enough is Enough” Coalition to Demand Action on Crime

MONCTON, NB – In response to an alarming rise in crime in the downtown core, a coalition of Moncton landlords, business owners, and property managers have launched the “Enough is Enough” Coalition—a grassroots campaign demanding immediate action from all levels of government to restore public safety and protect economic investment in the city.

The Coalition is rallying businesses and residents alike to speak out against the growing wave of vandalism, theft, break-ins, harassment, and open drug use that has made downtown Moncton feel unsafe and unrecognizable.

“This is no longer just a nuisance—it’s a crisis,” said Patrick Gillespie, speaking on behalf of the Coalition. “Millions of dollars are being spent each year on private security, repairs, and lost business. Tenants are leaving downtown rental units. Businesses are thinking twice about renewing leases. The costs are real, and they are escalating.”

The Enough is Enough campaign is issuing a clear call to action to municipal, provincial, and federal leaders: Public safety in downtown Moncton must become the top priority. The campaign demands a Zero Tolerance for Crime approach, coordinated enforcement of existing laws and bylaws, and an end to political finger-pointing.

The Coalition estimates that downtown businesses and landlords are collectively absorbing millions in added security, insurance premiums, and revenue losses—a price that is becoming unsustainable.

“We are not here to debate causes—we understand the complexities of homelessness, addiction, and mental health,” the spokesperson added. “But we are drawing a line. No one should feel unsafe walking into their workplace, serving customers, or coming home to their apartment.”

The campaign’s first action is the launch of an online petition at www.enoughisenoughmoncton.ca

Business owners, residents, employees, and concerned citizens are invited to:

  • Sign the petition calling for immediate, coordinated government action at www.enoughisenoughmoncton.ca
  • Share their story detailing how crime has impacted their business, property, or quality of life.

These stories will serve as a critical record of the human and financial toll downtown Moncton is facing—and will be used to hold elected officials accountable throughout the fall and beyond.

The Coalition is being formed quietly but purposefully, with support already growing among business owners and landlords across the downtown core. Participants will receive updates, key messages, and campaign materials to share through their own channels.

“We’ve reached a breaking point. People are afraid. Businesses are paying the price. Government must act—and we will not stop until they do.”
