The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton went Back to the Ballroom to celebrate the Greater Moncton business community
during 37th annual Business Excellence Awards

Moncton (NB) – The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton honoured eleven deserving Greater Moncton businesses during the 37th annual Business Excellence Awards held Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the Delta by Marriott Beauséjour.

The theme of this year’s awards gala was “Back to the Ballroom” which represented the first in-person Business Excellence Awards since 2019.

The winners emerged from a list of 55 nominees in 10 categories to claim the much-prized Business Excellence hardware.

“This year has been challenging for business, and for the community at large. Fallout from the pandemic, rising costs, supply chain and workforce issues as well as social issues have weighed heavy on our business community,” said Chamber CEO John Wishart. “We have very much been looking forward to seizing the opportunity to celebrate the excellence of our business community in person, a community which has demonstrated resiliency and courage again and again while facing formidable circumstances.”

Again, this year, the award for Business Person of the Year was presented. This award is determined by the Chamber’s Board of Directors and celebrates individuals who are true community leaders.

Another award, the People’s Choice Award, was presented to the organization from the tri-community area that the public feels is most deserving, though an online vote. All companies that were nominated for one of the awards were eligible for this award.

The winners in each category were:

  • Young Entrepreneur: Luxe Salon
  • Emerging Business: Beyond 20/20 Optometry
  • Environmental Excellence: ALIVE Kombucha
  • Newcomer Entrepreneur: Surreal Design Studio Inc.
  • Innovation: D.A.S. Concrete Countertops Inc.
  • Non-Profit Organization of the Year: BGC Moncton
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: Accor
  • Excellence in Business (Small and Medium Enterprise): Hive Engineering Limited
  • Excellence in Business: Greystone Energy Systems
  • Business Person of the Year: Jim Dixon
  • People’s Choice: Hospice Southeast New Brunswick

Presenting sponsor again this year was RBC Wealth Management with individual award categories sponsored by Assumption Life, BDC, Brainworks, CPA New Brunswick, Liberty Utilities, municipalities of Dieppe, Moncton and Riverview, NBCC, Opportunities New Brunswick, Scotiabank, and Wilson Insurance.

Medavie Blue Cross also sponsored the Milestone Club created in 2018 to recognize members for their long-term success and commitment to the Chamber. This year, four companies were inducted, all of whom have been Chamber members for more than 40 years: Forbes Roth Basque, Atlantic Baptist Housing, NBCC and Ivan’s Camera.

“When a business has been in operation for so many years, they are obviously doing a lot of things right,” Wishart said. “The Milestone Club is a kind of business hall of fame for Greater Moncton and this year’s inductees are certainly worthy.”

Each of the award categories was adjudicated by an independent judging panel representing a cross-section of Greater Moncton’s business community. The People’s Choice Award is determined via a public vote on the CCGM website, and the Businessperson of the Year award has been chosen by the Board of Directors of the CCGM.

Each award winner and the other finalists in each category received an engraved glass trophy.
